I was playing through this segment of KH II last night and I can't really understand what the purpose of Timeless River was. Was it just pretty much an example of a time paradox? I know that the Heartless had stolen the Cornerstone of Light before Disney Castle was built, but if that was so, wouldn't that have affected pretty much the entire outcome of Kingdom Hearts, meaning that the Cornerstone would have never been in Disney Castle in the first place, hence other events unfolding such as Maleficent taking hold of Disney Castle earlier on? Also, why was Pete's door different to the one that Sora, Donald and Goofy used, in respects to the picture above the door (his was like a coat of arms while theirs was a fleur-de-lis-like pattern)? And why did it appear to him randomly?

I figured the Timeless River was just another world you needed to fix. I thoghut the heartless didn't steal the cornerstone of light until kh2 actually... I don't really know why it appeared to pete, I just speculate he was missing and thinking about that time so much that it made the door appear.

Am I the only one here who's just as confused as SoD is?
Think about it: In the past, Pete stoll the Corner Stone, causing Disney Castle in the present day to fall under the control of Maleficent (Hence all the thorns appearing). That would have meant that Maleficent had control of the castle since that moment in the past, right?
If that's so, then why didn't it have a major effect on other things in the timeline? For example: Because Maleficent was in control, Mickey never became King, so he didn't dissapear to protect the worlds in KH1, plus he didn't send Donald and Goofy to find and protect the Key bearer, or it could even cause severe changes on the Birth by Sleep storyline. Or it could even be a case of "One thing leading to another", what if because of the differences in the past, Sora ends up not existing or something.
But did anything major happen? No, everybody from Disney Castle and the whole world of KH where uneffected by timeline changes.
Am I making sence, or am I still missing something?

That's what I was confused about but I think it was pretty much a case of Pete wanting to go back to simpler times; i.e. Timeless River, a door appeared out of nowhere, Maleficent saw it and told Pete to wreck havoc and mess up the future. In other words, I think she just saw Pete's door as a way to travel backwards in time and rewrite things how she wanted them to go.

Well why it was in it...because it was paying homage to the start of Disney animation.
But for it being in it storywise, Pete had to have some kind of sinister plot and he wanted to bad to go back to the old days because of his steamboat.

No, you can teleport from the past and future using the corner stone of light, thats how Sora and co. went back in time using the corner stone of light from the king's castle from there.

The purpose was basically for sora to see the past of mickey and pete before they became enemies.xion, wrote:I was playing through this segment of KH II last night and I can't really understand what the purpose of Timeless River was.

They both had different doors, one from the light and one from the darkness Pete used which had a limit that is why Maleficent wanted him to bring back the corner stone of light to travel through any doors.
