So as many of you guys have already notice that Aqua Terra and Ventus are all Latin words meaning water land and air/wind. So when i heard that a new name was reveled i was surprised that it was Vanitas which means vanity. I though for sure his name was going to follow the pattern of elemental type names that has been set up, not a latin verb! It throws off the pattern that was started in game1!

The intended meaning of Vanitas is still questionable. Personally, I think the name means "Emptiness" in which case it stills follow the trend of classical elements. In one particular grouping of classical elements, the list includes:

Fire
Water
Earth
Wind
Emptiness
Consciousness

Of course, Terra relates to Earth, Aqua relates to Water, and Ventus relates to Wind. It would seem that Vanitas' name relates to Emptiness. Then there is the element of fire, which behaves similarly to the nature of darkness, in that it both are a destructive forces that grow and consume. Then there is the consciousness elements, which I think can be related to the heart itself.

Possibly, each of six BBS characters:

Master Xehanort
Aqua
Terra
Ventus
Vanitas
Eraqus

are connected to the six classical elements in this particular grouping, even if those connections aren't necessarily related to their names but rather the elements whose nature they represent.

Yea, this is old news, they all forma symbol around the meaning of earth, fire and water. So it could mean all. That's how Sora, Riku and Kairi are somewhat a like.
