Other than soul music and jazz, what do you think about rock-n-roll? That took my dad off the street and made him want to start his own band in his garage.

I would have to say this
also, I don't think rock-n-roll played a significant roll in our history but they have changed a lot of cultures with their styles, pop culture, religious belief and music. But nothing really serious.

The song's theme is a positive interpretation of the history of immigration to the United States, and seems to take place both during the early 1900s wave as well as in contemporaneous times. Formed of Diamond's typical combination of powerful melody, dynamic arrangement, and bombastic vocal, it ends with an interpolation of the traditional patriotic song "My Country, 'Tis of Thee". In Diamond's concerts, the song is a very popular number both home and abroad, with a large United States flag often displayed from the rafters on cue to the lyric, "Every time that flag's unfurled / They're coming to America."
The song has been used in a number of contexts, including as a theme song for Michael Dukakis's 1988 presidential campaign. Diamond also sang it at the rededication of the Statue of Liberty on the occasion of its centennial.[

eh, that doesn't have anything to do with what I said about Rock'n Roll? That's talking about something else.
Rock'n Roll introduced us to a new culture and then developed into pop, r&b then rap (now today). You should look at a madonna interview about rock'n roll.

But it does explain so attributes leading up to Rock'n Roll so don't dismiss it just yet.

While it did, but it never actually made an impact imo, yes society back then expanded while the religion, government expanded music but not rock'n roll. It came about the same time RAP/R&B, and POP. Jazz, soul music were the ones the moved us, actually church music played a huge impact in history.
