When winning competitions and/or becoming a Helper/Premium member you don't need to request a pin, since they will be given automatically. But for things such as showing friendliness, I think you may be able to request a friendship pin. Not quite sure though- we may notice it first and then you won't have to request it.

If by changing you mean giving you the award, then yes - we'd notify you and then bam. And of course it has to be significant and consistent friendliness xD or else everyone would have that pin. Lilium' said it himself; we're a really friendly forum, teehee :3

Basically each pin award works differently, if your applying for the friendless award, you must display friendliness around the forum and then you can apply for it or rather request the pin. You will PM an admin requesting a pin, and it will either be excepted or decline.
